Jeffrey S. Plagenhoef, M.D.
Jeffrey S. Plagenhoef, M.D. is President of Anesthesia Consultants Medical Group, P.C. in Dothan, Ala., which he joined in 1991. His anesthesia practice is based at Southeast Alabama Medical Center where he served as Department Chair twice and President of the medical staff; he currently serves as Chair of Quality and Peer Review. Additionally, he practices at Dothan Surgicenter where he served as Medical Director, and at American Surgery Center.
Dr. Plagenhoef has been an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) since 1988. In addition to his current role as ASA Assistant Secretary, Dr. Plagenhoef served as Treasurer of the ASAPAC Executive Board, Chair of the Committee on the Anesthesia Care Team, and the inaugural Chair of the Board of Directors of the Anesthesia Quality Institute. He also served on the ASA’s Committee on Finance and Ad Hoc Committees on State Component Society Advocacy and Funding Assistance, Health Policy Institute and Alternative Anesthesia Payment Models, among others.
Dr. Plagenhoef received his Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University and Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he was elected Chief Resident from 1990-1991. Dr. Plagenhoef received his American Board of Anesthesiology certification in 1992.
Dr. Plagenhoef’s wife, Debbie, has also made many contributions to anesthesiology, serving in leadership positions within the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists. They have six children: Nick, Madelin, Alex, Drew, Kenzie and Sydney.
