Steven L. Sween, M.D.                                                                                          
ASA Speaker, House of Delegates.

Steven L. Sween, M.D. currently serves as the chair/medical director, member of the Board of Directors and staff anesthesiologist at Physician Specialists in Anesthesia, PC in Atlanta.  At Saint Joseph’s Hospital, he chairs the Department of Anesthesia and the Peri-operative Governance Committee.  He is also chair of the hospital Committee on Patient Safety and Quality.

In addition to serving as the Society’s Vice Speaker of the House of Delegates since 2008 and now Speaker in 2012, Dr. Sween has served on various ASA Committees throughout his membership including the Committee on Governmental Affairs (1998-2004, 2006-09), the Committee on Economics (2002-08) and the Committee on Practice Management (2002-09).  Dr. Sween is currently a member of the ASA Ad Hoc Committee on CEO Search, and he chairs the ASA Ad Hoc Committee on Headquarters Building Construction. 

Dr. Sween received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine in Minneapolis, completed his Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, his Anesthesiology Residency at the University of Rochester in N.Y., and his Family Practice Residency at the University of Minn.

Dr. Sween and his wife, Barbara, live in Atlanta and have two daughters.
