Ronald L. Harter, M.D.
Ronald Lee Harter, M.D. currently serves as Vice Speaker, House of Delegates for the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). Dr. Harter is the Jay J. Jacoby, M.D., Ph.D. Professor and Chair, Department of Anesthesiology, at the Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University Medical Center.
A member of ASA since 1990, Dr. Harter has served the Society in numerous roles. In addition to his primary role as Vice Speaker, House of Delegates, Dr. Harter recently served as Ohio’s Director to ASA’s Board of Directors and as the Chair of ASA’s Committee on Bylaws. He began his service to ASA during his residency training, being elected to ASA’s Resident Component Governing Council in 1992. He subsequently served on ASA’s Delegation to the American Medical Association, and has Chaired ASA’s Committee on Residents and Medical Students, as well as its Committee on Young Physicians.
His professional appointments and service extend beyond ASA, holding various leadership positions including serving as President of the Columbus Society of Anesthesiologists from 1995-2002 and as President of the Ohio Society of Anesthesiologists in 2002-2003.
Dr. Harter earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Capital University and a Doctorate of Medicine degree from Ohio State University, both in Columbus, Ohio. He completed his residency in anesthesiology at Georgetown University in 1993. Dr. Harter received his American Board of Anesthesiology certification in 1994.
Dr. Harter resides with his wife Kathy and their five children, Reece, Jake, Katie, Maggie and Mei, in Dublin, Ohio.
