This October, ASA will welcome attendees from across the globe to San Francisco for the largest anesthesia-related educational gathering in anesthesia, and we hope you will join us. Consistently ranked as “America’s Favorite City,” San Francisco offers superb cuisine, diverse performing arts, premier shopping, and internationally renowned museums and attractions.

The ANESTHESIOLOGY™ 2013 annual meeting is taking place at the Moscone Center in the vibrant city center, with close proximity to hotels and attractions such as the Asian Art Museum. The Moscone Center is easily accessible from the airport via public transportation and is within walking distance to several unique neighborhoods. Being a very compact city of seven miles by seven miles, San Francisco’s diverse neighborhoods are all just a short walk or commute away. In addition to tourist favorites such as Union Square, Chinatown, Fisherman’s Wharf and the Embarcadero, other popular neighborhoods include Nob Hill, North Beach, Russian Hill and the Castro.

Come for the meeting, but plan to set aside time to enjoy all the City by the Bay has to offer, including unique galleries, theaters and world-famous attractions such as Golden Gate Park and the Presidio. With over 4,000 restaurants, there’s a cuisine fit for everyone – from Michelin star-rated eateries to neighborhood greasy spoons and a variety of unique California wine-tasting locations in the downtown area. Be sure to take a stroll or a bike ride across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, explore Alcatraz Island and don’t miss a ride on one of the historic cable cars.

October typically has a chill in the air in many parts of the world, but in quirky San Francisco it’s considered our best month of weather, feeling more like summer than fall. Consider extending your stay in the Golden State either before or after the meeting and take advantage of our beautiful climate. The picturesque towns of Sausalito, Monterey and Carmel, the redwoods of Muir Woods, and the award-winning wineries of Napa and Sonoma are all just a short drive away.
