HHS Proposes 1-Year Delay for ICD-10-CM/PCS implementation, New Health Plan Identifier and changes to National Provider Identifier Requirements

Monday, April 09, 2012

In a recently proposed rule, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) proposed postponing the implementation date for ICD-10-CM/PCS  from October 1, 2013 to October 1, 2014. The 198-page proposed rule also calls for Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act-required "administrative simplifications" through the establishment of a "unique Health Plan Identifier (HPID)" and additional National Provider Identifier (NPI) requirements.

ASA will carefully review the proposed rule and offer comments.
