Simulation for Part IV of MOCA

Saturday, June 01, 2013 to Saturday, June 01, 2013

Location:
Chicago, Illinois
United States of America
At:
Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine

Participants will receive an orientation to the simulation environment and patient mannequin at the beginning of this single day course. The participants will engage in providing team-based patient care covering a range of peri-operative critical events in a variety of settings. Each participant will play an active role as a main anesthesia care provider for at least one scenario, and function as helpers or observers for other scenarios. Building on the basic components of hypoxemia and hemodynamic disturbances, simulated clinical events will also incorporate complex or rare critical events as well as challenges in teamwork and communication. This course is NOT a test and performance is NOT GRADED. Rather, each scenario is accompanied by a detailed, interactive peer debriefing led by an instructor. Advance preparation is not necessary. To receive credit for satisfactory completion of the simulation course for MOCA®, participants will submit an online course evaluation and identify 3 areas for practice improvement within 3 days of course completion. Participants will then submit a follow-up report to the ASA 1-3 months following the simulation course. Upon submission of these elements, the ASA will notify the ABA that the simulation requirement has been completed. No report or record of performance is given to the ABA.
