CMS Announces Coding Changes for Transesophageal Doppler Monitoring

Effective 10/1/2012, claims to Medicare for esophageal Doppler monitoring should be reported with HCPCS code G9157 – Transesophageal Doppler used for cardiac monitoring.  Code 76999 - Unlisted ultrasound procedure (eg., diagnostic, interventional) should not be used to report this service on/after 10/1/2012.  No new changes are being made to Medicare’s current policy for Esophageal Doppler Monitoring.
