Participate in the Public Health Program and Institute of Rural Health at Idaho State University's Rural Pass-Through Study
The Public Health Program and Institute of Rural Health at Idaho State University are now surveying ASA members to investigate what proportion of active and resident ASA members would seriously consider converting their practices to Rural Pass-Through-eligible locations if CMS rules are changed to allow anesthesiologists to participate in the Rural Pass-Through. Medicare's Rural Pass-Through for Anesthesia (a.k.a., the Rural Pass-Through) currently excludes anesthesiologists from receiving compensation through its provisions, which almost always compensate anesthesiologists less than CRNAs who perform cases at certain rural critical access hospitals. Please participate, and we appreciate you taking the time to make your voice heard!
ASA responds to Wall Street Journal article on scope of practice
In response to the February 3 Wall Street Journal article " Battles Erupt Over Filling Doctors' Shoes," ASA President John M. Zerwas, M.D. submitted a letter to the editor. Dr. Zerwas expressed ASA's support of the American Medical Association's recommendation to use mid-level staff with the guidance and direction of properly trained physicians to best serve patients. The letter also explained how anesthesiologists lead the anesthesia care team to make critical medical decisions on behalf of patients.
