ASA supports maintenance of anesthesiologists' hardship exemption and seeks improvements to the EHR Incentive Program
In a formal response to an Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology request for information on interoperability and health information exchange, ASA urged ONC and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to maintain the Electronic Health Records hardship exemption for anesthesiologists - a change ASA successfully advocated for in the past. ASA also urged ONC and CMS to provide additional exemptions to specific meaningful use criteria. Learn more.
During a National Provider Call, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) noted their intention to hold firm to the October 1, 2014 transition to the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition Diagnosis and Procedure Codes (ICD-10-CM/PCS). Read more.
Call for special issue papers in Anesthesiology
In January 2014, Anesthesiology will publish its special medical education-themed issue. The journal is currently accepting manuscripts presenting original research, reviews and methodologies and strategies related to the education of medical students, residents, fellows and practitioners for this issue. The deadline for submission is May 1, 2013.
