Journal Anesthesiology studies make headlines
As part of the Journal Press Release Program, two studies were highlighted from the November issue of Anesthesiology. One study found two commonly used anesthetics produce different metabolic patterns in children's unconscious brains, while the other study released findings from the first national survey of anesthesiologists over 50.

ASA recognizes member for significant research contributions in anesthesiology
During the ANESTHESIOLOGY™ 2012 annual meeting, ASA presented Ralph Lydic, Ph.D. with the 2012 ASA Excellence in Research Award for his work on the neurobiology of sleep and breathing. Dr. Lydic has focused his research efforts on three primary areas, including arousal state-dependent respiratory depression, sleep and pain, and the neurochemical control of sleep and anesthesia.
