Refrigerant anesthesia with Kelene
Just 109 years ago this month, in December of 1903, Texas surgeon Ernest Mellish opined in the Journal of the American Medical Association that Kelene and other proprietary ethyl chloride products were "dangerous anesthetics." He was referring, of course, to Kelene general anesthetics. In reality, due to its chillingly swift evaporation, ethyl chloride was pioneered as a safe, topical refrigerant anesthetic.
