We perform urological and general surgery cases; mostly open prastatectomies, orchiectomies, suprapubic catheter placements, herniorrhaphies, hydrocelectomies and various other general cases. We try to do most cases under spinal anesthesia but do use general anesthesia when needed. Emory University medical students perform the patient work-ups and provide post-operative care with the assistance of a team of ICU nurses, under direct supervision of the trip attending physicians.

Our office in Bolivia notifies the community about each of our planned missions and screens patients in advance of our arrival. The experience of solidarity is central to our mission. Together we work with our Bolivian partners learning from each other. Many of our medical team members spend their evenings giving educational seminars for the Bolivian community. On the weekend we may journey to outlying rural areas to explore the beautiful countryside and better understand Bolivian culture and people.
