Anesthesiology calendar note from the Wood Library-Museum

Cushing leaves his stamp on anesthesiology

Just 26 years ago this month, in April 1988, Dr. Harvey Cushing was honored posthumously by the U.S. Postal Service’s release of a 45-cent stamp bearing his likeness. Dr. Cushing helped popularize anesthetic records, blood pressure measurement and the precordial stethoscope—three wonderful innovations for intraoperative monitoring of surgical patients.
