ASA WEB LINK POLICY
(Approved by the ASA Board of Directors on August 16, 1998)
A. General Site Policy
The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) maintains its
Web site under the organization domain of <www.asahq.org>.
Requests for site links shall be submitted in writing to the ASA
Information Systems (IS) Department. All content already published
by ASA for another purpose will be accepted. Other content will
be submitted to the ASA Executive Director for approval before
inclusion on the ASA site. Web site design and maintenance for
the ASA Web site and all links will remain within the IS Department.
B. External Linking
ASA reserves the right to reject any request for an external
link from its Web site. In general, ASA does not accept links
to external sites other than ASA committees, other ASA-related
organizations and foundations, and ASA state component societies.
ASA may consider special link requests from:
- Academic institutions with accredited anesthesiology residencies
and/or established research programs.
- Reference or medical database Web sites.
- Anesthesia-related organizations and nonprofit foundations.
- Other medical organizations and specialty societies.
- Indexed, peer-reviewed medical publications.
The ASA Web site will not link to for-profit organizations (except
as noted below with respect to Annual Meeting exhibitors*), nor
will it link to personal or professional Web sites of ASA members.
By establishing a Web link with any external organization, it
should not be implied that such linkage constitutes endorsement
or support by ASA of any such entity.
*Exception for Annual Meeting Exhibitors
The exception to the above policy will be a special linking area
for those approved companies exhibiting at the current year's
ASA Annual Meeting. Exhibiting companies will be eligible to have
a link from the ASA "Exhibitor Information for Attendees"
section to their company Web site for an additional fee. That
link will be established for a specific period of time associated
with the ASA Annual Meeting.
C. Linking to ASA Web Site
The dynamics of the Internet allow for infinite links from
one Web site to another without a site host being aware of the
link from another site. Therefore, ASA cannot be responsible for
content on any Web site connected via hyperlink to the ASA Web
site. Upon request, however, ASA will investigate links to its
Web site and attempt to determine if they are inappropriate or
contrary to ASA's stated purpose and mission. In such a case,
ASA will attempt to have the link removed.
D. Indemnity
ASA is not responsible for a loss of link service and may
discontinue a site link at any time.
