ASA Art Exhibit Award Winners Honored in New Orleans |
Mark S. Schreiner, M.D., Chair
Committee on Art Exhibits
The works of 43 artists, including 83 pieces of fine art and
23 literature submissions, were displayed at the 30th Annual ASA
Art Exhibit during the 1996 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The exhibit theme of "Dreams" received much positive
feedback. Entries in all media were judged for this category,
with prizes also awarded separately in five fine art categories
and in literature.
The highlight of the opening reception was the presentation of
the "Joyce Sumner Best of Show Award." Gwendolyn S.
Connor, M.D., former chair of the Committee on Art Exhibits, introduced
Dr. Sumner, who made the 1996 Best of Show presentation to Anne
E. Dickison, M.D., for her color photography entry. Dr. Sumner
was instrumental in establishing the ASA Annual Meeting Art Exhibit
in 1967 and served as chair for the first three years.
1997 marks the sesquicentennial of obstetrical anesthesia. In
keeping with this event, the theme for the 31st Annual ASA Art
Exhibit at the 1997 ASA Annual Meeting will be "The Mother
and Child." We hope to see works by as many as possible of
the ASA membership and their families. Works related to the theme
"The Mother and Child" will be entered in that category
as well as in one of the general categories according to medium,
including paintings, color and black-and-white photography, graphic
works, crafts, sculpture and literature.
Applications should be submitted no later than June
1, 1997, to Mark S. Schreiner, M.D., Chair, Committee
on Art Exhibits, American Society of Anesthesiologists, 520 N.
Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, IL 60068-2573.
