Pain Management Certification and Recertification Examination Set

The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) will administer its Pain Management examination via computer at more than 200 test centers on Saturday, September 9, 2000. The ABA will inform candidates of the test sites when the list is available. All applicants for initial certification in the subspecialty must satisfactorily complete one year of training in a pain management program accredited by the Residency Review Committee for Anesthesiology by August 31, 2000; they also must be certified in anesthesiology by the ABA or scheduled for the ABA oral examination in 2000.

Physicians whose ABA pain management certificate soon will expire may apply to maintain their subspecialty certification. The application for pain management certification or recertification may be downloaded from the ABA Web site or obtained upon written request to the ABA at 4101 Lake Boone Trail, Suite 510, Raleigh, NC 27607-7506. The ABA must receive your completed pain management application by March 1, 2000.

Calendars for Meetings' Booklet Entries Invited

Twice each year, in January and July, ASA publishes a "Calendars for Meetings" booklet, which serves as an aid to all ASA members by providing information about continuing education courses, seminars and meetings in anesthesiology over the next five years. The booklet further helps to provide department chairs, program directors and component society officers with information that could prevent overlaps and conflicts in meeting schedules.

The next edition of "Calendars for Meetings" will be distributed with the January 2000 ASA NEWSLETTER. The deadline for submissions is December 1, 1999. Entries must be submitted in writing and received at the ASA Executive Office by the deadline. Submissions will not be taken by telephone. E-mail addresses, if available, will be included with the contact information.

For further information or to obtain submission forms, contact the ASA Executive Office, Communications Department, 520 N. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, IL 60068-2573;
telephone: (847) 825-5586; e-mail.
