About the ASA Legislative Conference
The ASA Legislative Conference is scheduled for the spring of each year at the JW Marriott Hotel in Washington, DC. The Conference is the medical specialty of anesthesiology’s largest meeting focusing on state and federal legislative, regulatory and political issues impacting ASA and the specialty.
Attendees of the Conference can expect to hear from a range of outstanding speakers discussing key issues impacting anesthesiology. Invited speakers typically include key health care policymakers and political leaders from the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, Administration and outside of the U.S. government. Past conferences have featured the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Honorable Michael Leavitt; U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY); the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Congressman William Thomas (R-CA); and senior officials from the White House.
Attendees will also hear policy briefings from members of the ASA lobbying staff and physician leadership. These briefings will prepare attendees for the “Hill Day” portion of the Conference during which attendees conduct lobbying visits with their individual Member of Congress and Senators on key issues impacting anesthesiology.
Registration for the Legislative Conference is conducted through each individual State Component. Interested anesthesiologists are encouraged to contact their component President or staff to determine how and when the state selects its delegation to the Legislative Conference.
Please feel free to contact Manuel Bonilla in the Washington office of the ASA at (202)289-2222 if you have any additional questions.
