NEW ICD-9 CODES
Anesthesiologists and other physicians must update their systems and use the
new or revised ICD-9-CM codes for services rendered on and after October 1, 2004.
They should review the changes for 2005 ICD-9-CM to see if any of the revisions
affect their practice (very few, if any, appear to affect anesthesiology, critical
care or pain medicine directly). CMS has posted a list of the new/deleted/revised
ICD-9-CM codes on its website at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/medlearn/icd9code.asp.
