The segment highlighted ASA’s opposition to the proposed U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) policy that removes physician anesthesiologists from surgery and replaces them with nurses. ASA President Daniel J. Cole, M.D., was quoted stating, “There is no shortage of physician anesthesiologists in the VA,” therefore the proposed change is unnecessary.
