Update: Senate Rejects Repeal-only Health Care Reform Legislation

This afternoon, the Senate rejected a proposal to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without replacement.  This proposal was one of several options being considered by the Senate as debate continues over health care reform.  The vote was 45-55.

While a replacement for the ACA and a straight repeal have both failed, several votes are still expected. Alternative health care reform proposals being considered include sending the legislation back to discussion in Committee, and a “skinny,” or scaled down version of the failed Better Care Reconciliation Act which may include repeal of the individual and employer mandates, and some of the tax provisions which fund the ACA.  It is also expected that the Senate will consider a number of Republican and Democratic amendments.

ASA will continue to provide updates on these discussions.
