2014 Gubernatorial Elections

In 2014, there are thirty-six states holding gubernatorial elections. Of those, seven are “open” states, with the following gubernatorial incumbents either term-limited or retiring: Jan Brewer (R-AZ), Mike Beebe (D-AR), Martin O’Malley (D-MD), Deval Patrick (D-MA), Dave Heineman (R-NE), Lincoln Chafee (D-RI), and Rick Perry (R-TX).

All states have now held their primaries and the party nominees are listed below. According to the data available at the time of this writing (September 12, 2014), the states are generally categorized below as toss-up states, leaning Democratic, leaning Republican, likely Democratic, likely Republican, or “safe” for either party (* indicates incumbent)1.
