Why attend

Be Part of the Decision Making Process

What is INSIGHTS + INNOVATIONS? It's the American Society of Anesthesiologists® enhanced Perioperative Surgical Home (PSH) conference designed by a group of health care professionals from a variety of disciplines. This is the only meeting solely dedicated to discussing PSH and what it means for the entire care team. INSIGHTS + INNOVATIONS is a fundamental step that will support and create the PSH leaders of tomorrow to shape the future of our specialty. The PSH is a patient-centric, team-based model of care that emphasizes value, patient satisfaction and reduced costs. The PSH also helps you move from volume to value.

The outpouring of support for PSH and participation in the new model of care resulted in many positive outcomes including:

  • A regional medical center saving $1.5 million in the first year.
  • A pediatric institution reducing a 30-day readmission rate from 8.33 percent to 7.5 percent for laryngeal cleft patients and reducing the average cost of these patients by approximately 20 percent.
  • An academic center saving an average of $10,000 per cystectomy case compared to pre-PSH cases and reducing the length of stay for these cases from 10.5 days to approximately six days, creating space in the organization for open beds and additional new revenue.
  • A major health system improving room turnover by approximately eight minutes, reducing the length of stay for hip/knee arthroplasty cases from an average of 110 hours to 51 hours, and cutting in half the readmission rate for hip/knee arthroplasty cases.

ASA’s PSH strategies were recently accepted by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as Improvement Activities (IA) under the 2018 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). PSH Care Coordination allows for the reporting of strategies and processes related to care coordination of patients receiving surgical or procedural care within a PSH. As 2017 is the first reporting year to qualify under MIPS, the INSIGHTS + INNOVATIONS conference will provide you the tools, resources and strategies to implement a PSH pilot at your facility and help you meet the MIPS IA requirement.
