Leadership Opportunities

Medical Student Governing Council

We would like to extend an invitation to all ASA Medical Student Component Members to apply for the ASA Governing Council Officer positions for the upcoming year. All interested medical students are encouraged to apply. Available positions include:

* Chair-Elect (first- and second-year students only)
* Secretary
* Member at Large
* Senior Advisor (fourth-year students only).

All applicants must be an ASA member from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school in the United States. Once an officer, you may not apply for a second term. We encourage all applicants to try to attend this year's ASA Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois.

Officer duties include:
 
*Attendance of the 2009 ASA Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA
*Attendance of the 2009 ASA Governing Council Meeting in East Lansing, MI
*A term from October 2008-October 2009
*Specific duties can be found on the ASA Medical Student Component Website (www.asahq.org/msd/bylaws.htm)

All interested candidates should complete the application including a personal statement (not more than 500 words) indicating why he/she wants to be an ASA Governing Council Officer, a current curriculum vitae and one letter of reference (two letters of reference for Chair-Elect).  All application materials are due by Friday, September 26, 2008. Also please indicate if there is a particular office for which you do not want to be considered. Send all applications via e-mail to staff  at medicalstudentcomponent@asahq.org.

Governing Council Members for the 2008-2009 term will be determined by the ASA Medical Student Delegation at the 2008 ASA Annual Meeting on Saturday, October 18, 2008. The new officer will be notified soon after.
