Aetna Announces Delay In Implementation Of New Endoscopy Policy
Chicago —
(February 27, 2008)
Aetna announced today that it will delay implementation of its endoscopy policy which would have placed numerous restrictions on coverage of anesthesia for these procedures.
ASA notes that this is merely a delay. The Society remains diligent in its efforts to ensure that medical necessity determinations are made by physicians directly involved in specific patient care—not independently by other organizations such as health insurance plans. To that end, we will continue our efforts to work with Aetna, other private payers and various GI societies.
