UPDATE: Senate fails to end filibuster of Medical Liability Legislation
On May 8, 2006, the Senate refused to allow full consideration of two Medical Liability Reform bills, S. 22 and S. 23. Both pieces of legislation sought to improve patient access to healthcare by reducing the excessive burden the current liability system places on the healthcare delivery system.
ASA will continue working with the Senate toward passage of effective medical liability reform legislation. Congress should fix the broken medical litigation system by enacting legislation that imposes reasonable caps on non-economic damages.
