1st Named APSF/ASA Endowed Research Grant Awarded

The American Society of Anesthesiologists’ first named endowment research grant was awarded recently as part of the 2008 Research and Education Grant Awards presented on Saturday, October 13, 2007, by the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF) Committee on Scientific Evaluation, chaired by Sorin J. Brull, M.D.  These awards are funded by APSF to begin January 1, 2008.

This is the first named APSF/ASA Endowed Research Award.  The named grant is titled "Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Adverse Perioperative Outcomes."  The principal investigator is Thomas J. Ebert, M.D., Department of Anesthesiology, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI.  A list of all the awards are listed on the APSF Web site (www.apsf.org) under "2008 Research and Education Grant Winners."

Full funding ($150,000) of the grant is from the APSF endowment fund, which was made possible by the contributions from ASA to APSF over the years.
