ASA member candidates

Four ASA members waged impressive campaigns for elected office in the 2008 cycle.

  • John Zerwas, M.D., ASA Treasurer, was reelected to represent the 28th District in the Texas State House of Representatives.
  • In the 1st Congressional District of Maryland, the race for U.S. Representative remains “too close to call.”  Andy Harris, M.D., a Maryland State Senator and former President of the Maryland Society of Anesthesiologists, received 1,021 fewer votes than his opponent as of midnight Nov. 4, with approximately 25,000 absentee ballots yet to be counted.
  • After a hard-fought battle, Sam Page, M.D., a member of the Missouri House of Representatives and past President of the Missouri Society of Anesthesiologists, lost his bid to become Lieutenant Governor of Missouri.  Dr. Page faced a difficult campaign against an incumbent, yet still managed to garner more than 47 percent of the vote.

  • Mike Katz, M.D., was elected to serve as State Senator in Delaware's 4th District.  This will be Dr. Katz's first term in the Delaware Senate.
