Herbal Medicine
In 1999, ASA distributed a video news release
(VNR) on herbal medications as part of its annual Doctors Day
promotion. The VNR went to more than 700 television stations
nationwide. The video features Michael F. Roizen, M.D., and
then ASA President John B. Neeld, Jr., M.D. The VNR addresses
the widespread problem of patients taking herbal medications
before surgery and not telling their doctors.
This is the first in a series of VNR's that have
been produced by the ASA Committee on Communications. The others
include office-based anesthesia and pain medicine.
