As part of the 2002 Doctors Day observance,
ASA distributed the video news release (VNR) Preparing
Your Child For Surgery.
The video was distributed to more than 700
individual television stations across the country and
features ASA President Barry M. Glazer, M.D., and Carolyn
F. Bannister, M.D., Children's Healthcare of Atlanta,
Egleston.
When a child undergoes surgery, some physicians
say, there are two patients: the child and the worried
parents. And sometimes, with the best intentions, parents
can make things worse. The VNR offers parents some suggestions
on how to effectively prepare their child for anesthesia
and surgery
This is the fourth VNR produced by ASA.
Others include herbal medications, office-based surgery
and pain medicine.
