ASA Urges FTC to end state-level overstep
On April 30, ASA submitted formal comments to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) urging it to modify its current position on the application of the state action doctrine to licensing authorities and end its related enforcement policies against those agencies. ASA’s comments reinforced the importance of having states regulate health professionals and promote competition that leads to high-quality patient care.

Update on ICD-10-CM/PCS transition date
The Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014 provided for a one-year patch for the SGR formula. It also delayed transition to ICD-10-CM/PCS from October 1, 2014 to a date not prior to October 1, 2015. The exact date is an important factor to consider as physician anesthesiologists and other stakeholders determine next steps in preparation for the change from ICD-9 to ICD-10.
