ASA and FDA Hold Tele-Town Hall on Drug Shortages

Friday, December 14, 2012

The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) hosted a very successful tele-town hall meeting featuring senior FDA officials on Wednesday, December 5.  The meeting included a robust Q&A session, during which the FDA officials fielded questions from ASA members.

Speakers at the meeting included:

  • Capt. Valerie Jensen, R.Ph., Associate Director, Drug Shortage Program, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, FDA
  • Bob A. Rappaport, M.D., Director, Division of Anesthesia, Analgesia, and Addiction Products, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, FDA
  • Arthur Simone, M.D., Ph.D., Medical Officer, Division of Anesthesia, Analgesia, and Addiction Products, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, FDA
  • John M. Zerwas, M.D., President, ASA
  • Arnold J. Berry, M.D., M.P.H., Vice President for Scientific Affairs, ASA

We thank the panelists, as well as the participants, for what was a productive discussion on national drug shortages.
