Subspecialty groups and anesthesia-related organizations hold meetings and activities in conjunction with ANESTHESIOLOGY 2019, creating opportunities for attendees to network with specialist members.

With a “State-of-the-Art Technologies, Pharmacology and Pathways” theme, this meeting offers 11 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and offers two workshops, included with registration, on October 17: Point of Care Ultrasound for the OSA Patient and Airway Ultrasound and Positive Airway Pressure. The main meeting on Friday focuses on regional anesthesia and pain management for the OSA patient, emerging technology in sleep and anesthesia, postoperative sleep as a patient-centered outcome after hospital discharge, emerging pharmacology and disease mechanisms and pathways.

Dr. Andrew Pitkin is an associate professor of anesthesiology and the director of congenital cardiac anesthesiology at University of Florida Health in Gainesville, Florida. He trained in internal medicine and anesthesiology in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States in 2007. His professional interests include simulation development and medical education. In his spare time he can often be found in the underwater cave systems in Florida and elsewhere. He is also a director of Karst Underwater Research, a non-profit organization that works with several governmental and environmental organizations to study and document groundwater resources in the state.
