Driven by virtual reality (VR) technology, the Physician Communications Coach helps anesthesiologists practice and master essential soft skills in a virtual learning environment using their computer and webcam. The Physician Communications Coach assesses the verbal and non-verbal cues of the physician during the training, and provides constructive feedback. Physicians navigate the immersive virtual scenario three times, practicing and receiving feedback each time to help them improve their communication skills.
Physician Communications Coach: Conflict Resolution helps participants improve communication skills when dealing with patient and colleague concerns in a controlled environment. This is accomplished through virtual interactions with avatars and live discussion in a staged scenario.

In this scenario, you are a physician anesthesiologist in practice for five years. Recently, one of your patients, Hugo Bedria, underwent a prostatectomy to remove part of his prostate gland. The procedure was done under general anesthesia. To provide pain relief during recovery, you and Mr. Bedria’s surgeon recommended an epidural. Hugo and his wife were wary about having both anesthesia and an epidural. Ultimately, Hugo decided to have the epidural at the recommendation of both healthcare professionals. You performed Hugo’s history and physical. You reviewed risks, complications and benefits of the procedure with Hugo, and he was prepped for surgery. Today, you have a post-op visit with Hugo.
The Physician Communications Coach suite of scenarios is developed in collaboration with Mursion, a leader in virtual training simulation.
