FAER Announces A Day for New Researchers
A Collaboration with Early-Stage Anesthesiology Scholars (eSAS) at ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2019

June 24, 2019

The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) is excited to announce a collaboration with Early-Stage Anesthesiology Scholars (eSAS) to provide a full day of research sessions on October 20th at ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2019 in Orlando, Florida.

"Medical innovation is driven through research. For the first time, the early-stage anesthesia scholars (eSAS) will partner with FAER at the 2019 ASA Annual Meeting to provide an exciting day of programming geared toward the next generation of innovators within our medical specialty,” said Julie Freed, M.D., Ph.D., Co-President of eSAS.

This collaboration between FAER and eSAS expands on the FAER Medical Student and Resident Scholar Research Symposium, held annually at ANESTHESIOLOGY®. This symposium consists of paper poster presentations given by participants in FAER’s Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship (MSARF) and Resident Scholar Program (RSP). The symposium provides these early-career physicians an opportunity to discuss and receive feedback on their research projects from both their peers as well as the senior physician-scientists moderating their presentations.

Sessions organized by eSAS will precede FAER’s MSARF and RSP poster presentations at ANESTHESIOLOGY®, creating a day fully dedicated to the growth of early-career physician-scientists. The eSAS sessions will cover various topics, ranging from the current opioid epidemic to the difficulties faced by physicians attempting to conduct research while simultaneously completing their clinical training and residency. The complementary nature of FAER and eSAS’s content promises to make this collaborative initiative a day of growth for all involved.

“Medicine constantly and rapidly evolves through research, and anesthesiology’s future as a medical specialty relies critically on its research. This Day for New Researchers held by FAER and eSAS is a great opportunity to foster interest and create community among the next generation of physician-scientists in the specialty,” said James C. Eisenach, M.D., FAER President and CEO. “Supporting early-career physicians already engaged in anesthesia research as well as attracting those still uncertain about pursuing careers as physician-scientists, the Day for New Researchers is not only a boon to anesthesiology in the present but an investment in our specialty’s future.”
