The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) and the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) are co-sponsoring a FAER/ABA Research in Education Grant to advance and knowledge of anesthesiologists interested in the key elements of education in anesthesiology—curriculum, instruction and assessment.

The following materials will be submitted as a part of the application:

A precis outlining the background, rationale, specific aims, and approach to the proposed project (500 words).

A description of the candidate’s background and interests in education research (500 words).

A career development plan, including long-term career goals, and how the FAER/ABA award will contribute to these goals (500 words). Those applicants proposing a primary mentor from their own institution should include the role of the mentor in this plan.

A biosketch (Biosketch template).

For those applicants without a track record of education research, a letter of support from a primary mentor (preferably with experience in education research) that includes a description of mentor qualifications.

Letter of support from the department chair, including a commitment to providing at least 40% protected effort to conduct the proposed research and time to travel to the ABA offices for up to two weeks annually.

An itemized budget.


The grant recipient will be announced in May 2019.
