The Brookings Initiative on International Volunteering and Service seeks to explore ways in which the culture of volunteerism can help enhance global understanding and security. The initiative has a goal to substantially increase the number of Americans that volunteer overseas.

Alliance of US-based organizations sharing a goal of promoting more strategic U.S. investment in frontline health workers as a cost-effective way to provide effective and efficient health care. Among the approximately 50 allied organizations are several whose main goals are improvement of surgical care.

THEnet is a consortium of health-professions education institutions committed to achieving health equity through medical education, research and service that is responsive to communities' priority needs. Together as a community of practice, and partnering with others, THEnet seeks to transform medical education, build institutional capacity and shape policy so as to make health systems around the world more equitable.
Includes discussion of leadership and national policy; healthcare-associated infection; healthworker safety; medications, vaccines, and equipment; funding; and research. Notably missing is proposed chapter 8, Surgical Safety.
Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH)
The site includes many resources for education and for finding training programs in Global Health. CUGH includes a variety of issue-specific interest groups. The one on Anesthesia and Surgery is in its development phases.

Provides resources and links on Global health, education and research. Opportunity to join discussion groups dedicated to specific issues.
ServiceReef.com is a website that allows organizations to post and coordinate events. Among the users are a variety of health-related groups, particularly Global Health Outreach (CMDA).
Aid For Africa
Alliance of U.S.-based nonprofits and their African partners working to help children, families, and communities throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. Member organizations are required to meet specific tests of programmatic impact, fiscal accountability, and governance standards (see "eligibility" tab on the website).
World Health Professions Alliance
The World Health Professions Alliance WHPA brings together the global organizations representing the world's dentists, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists and physicians and speaks for more than 26 million health care professionals in more than 130 countries. WHPA works to improve global health and the quality of patient care and facilitates collaboration among the health professions and major stakeholders.
