ASA Department of Quality and Regulatory Affairs (QRA) is based out of the ASA Washington, D.C. office. QRA’s mission is to direct and advance the interests of anesthesiologists in professional standards, performance outcomes, quality assurance and regulatory affairs as they intersect with quality initiatives.
Guide to Anesthesia Department Administration (GADA)
The ASA Committee on Quality Management & Departmental Administration (QMDA) created the GADA to assist practices in developing local policies and complying with various federal regulations and accreditation organization requirements. Topics include, but are not limited to, department administration, safety culture, quality program development, accreditation resources, resources on distractions and fatigue, physician re-entry to practice and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) Conditions of Participation and its hospital interpretive guidelines (IGs). For each topic, members will have access to summary descriptions, discussions on best practices and reference links to relevant regulatory documents and publications.
Quality Reporting Programs
In 2021, physician anesthesiologists and their practices may report quality measures and other data to for Medicare payment purposes as part of the Quality Payment Program. Information on previous performance years is also available.
2019-2020 Measure Development Cycle and Report
The ASA Committee on Performance and Outcomes Measurement, in addition to physician quality leaders of the Anesthesia Quality Institute (AQI), completed measure specifications for four new quality measures (July 2020).
