Patient Safety Highlights 2017 - Outpatient Total Knee Arthroplasty:  How Do We Get There?

THIS IS AN ONLINE ACTIVITY. Hard copies are not available.

The current fiscal climate of value-based decision-making and shared risks and payment has increased the number of surgical procedures performed in an outpatient setting. For success it is necessary to implement protocols that improve functional outcomes, enhance recovery and reduce the need for hospitalization. The use of evidence-based clinical pathways improves outcomes and the patient experience. The purpose of this lecture is to examine the perioperative considerations required for performing total knee arthroplasty on an outpatient basis.

These patient safety activities help fulfill the patient safety CME requirement for Part 2 of the Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program® (MOCA) of The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). Please consult the ABA website, www.theABA.org, for a list of all MOCA requirements.

Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program® and MOCA® are registered certification marks of The American Board of Anesthesiology®.
