| New Jersey Explores
Acquisition of Training Simulator |
The New Jersey State Society of Anesthesiologists (NJSSA) has
created a committee that will look into purchasing and maintaining
an anesthesia simulator in the Garden State. Initial plans by
NJSSA call for the simulator to be kept in a freestanding building,
centrally located in New Jersey, so it can be used by physicians
from around the state. NJSSA recently approved the establishment
of a tax-free foundation for the purpose of raising the money
to buy and maintain the simulator.
Ervin Moss, M.D., Executive Medical Director of NJSSA, says the
computer-operated simulator can create more than 100 crises that
a physician could face in the O.R. and will cost at least $200,000
to buy and another $60,000 a year to maintain. This does not include
the cost of housing the simulator. According to Dr. Moss, the
simulator could be used by students in the state's three medical
schools and for continuing medical education for New Jersey's
anesthesiologists, cardiologists and emergency room physicians.
A simulator will be on display at the 38th Annual New Jersey
Postgraduate Anesthesia Seminar, March 22-23, at the Trump Plaza
Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.
