Members of the North Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists (NCSA) now have direct access to their component society's leadership through its connection on the Internet.

NCSA President Charles H. Nicholson, M.D., said, "The Web site makes it easier for the Society's membership to communicate directly with the executive committee and vice versa." In addition, the Web site contains direct links to several anesthesiology-related databases, ASA and a jobs-posting service for residents. Dr. Nicholson said he would like to have the component's newsletter eventually posted online as well.

It took approximately six weeks of researching, planning and programming by NCSA's Communications Committee before the Web site went online. The Society uses a local access provider for its connection to the Internet and currently expects to spend about $1,500 annually for maintaining its Web site.

"People are very busy with ever-increasing demands on their time," Dr. Nicholson said. "Our Web site provides the membership and executive committee with a time-effective tool to help us communicate with one another. I encourage any component without a Web site to investigate getting one, even if it's just a pilot project to start."
