Special Program - A Professional Diversity Perspective

"A special luncheon and afternoon program titled "Personal Management for the Professional," featuring an intriguing keynote address and unique round-table discussion topics, will be presented at the ASA Annual Meeting on Monday, October 20, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Committee on Professional Diversity has created significant excitement with its recent Annual Meeting programs addressing personal issues that can affect one's professional development, and this year's program will surely be very popular because of the timely subject.

Following the luncheon, Kim Dell'Angela, Ph.D., will deliver the keynote address, "So, You Want to Have a Life?" Dr. Dell'Angela holds appointments as Assistant Clinical Professor in the departments of Anesthesiology, Pediatrics and Psychiatry at Loyola University of Chicago, Illinois. At the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, she teaches a graduate course in cultural diversity in family and marital therapy. She and her professional husband have been involved in diversity training in academic settings and have helped physicians benefit from the psychology body of literature that has been utilized by "Corporate America."

Two round-table discussion sessions will cover a variety of personal issues that concern one professionally. Registrants may select one round-table discussion topic per session. Focused discussions in each session will delve into home management by the professional couple or the nontraditional couple and of child care options. Table leaders include Joanne C. Hudson, M.D., Nila Gupta, M.D., Patricia A. Dailey, M.D., Amy M. Murray, M.D., Joe Murray, Helena B. Gunnerson, M.D., and M. Christine Stock, M.D.

Additional round-table discussion topics during both sessions include stress management, prioritizing time commitments and useful personal organization tools for the professional. Table leaders for these subjects will include William P. Arnold III, M.D., Marcelle M. Willock, M.D., Thomas H. Cromwell, M.D., Jane Matjasko, M.D., Joanne M. Conroy, M.D. and Rosemarie M. Johnson, M.D. The program will be moderated by Caryl J. Guth, M.D., and Helena B. Gunnerson, M.D. Handouts will be available for attendees. Tickets are required for this popular special luncheon program.

Following the program, ASA registrants are invited to join program attendees and participants for complimentary coffee service while enjoying an informal time of fellowship that provides the opportunity to continue discussions, talk to speakers, network, exchange business cards and meet colleagues.
