RESIDENTS' REVIEW

Call to Serve on ASA Committees

Scott E. Metzger, M.D., Chair
Resident Component Governing Council

Over the past five years, resident participation in ASA activities has increased dramatically. ASA leadership continues to foster this involvement by appointing residents to serve as adjunct members of various ASA committees. While serving on these committees, residents are given the chance to participate in formal ASA activities and to sharpen their leadership skills.

President-Elect William D. Owens, M.D., has appointed 24 residents to serve as adjunct members of the 1998 ASA committees [Table 1]. These one-year appointments begin at the conclusion of the ASA Annual Meeting in October 1997. These residents are also invited to attend the Resident Component House of Delegates meeting during the ASA Annual Meeting.

In November, a request for applications from residents to serve as committee members for the 1999 term will be sent to each residency program. Applications should include a cover letter describing the resident's interest in serving on an ASA committee, a curriculum vitae and a preference list of up to three committees. Descriptions of each committee are found in the ASA Bylaws section in the ASA Directory of Members.

Applications must be received no later than January 1, 1998, at the ASA Executive Office. Candidates will receive their appointments in the summer of 1998. More information may be obtained from Ronald A. Bruns, Director of Administrative Affairs, ASA Executive Office, 520 N. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, IL 60068-2573; telephone (847) 825-5586. Current resident committee members may also be contacted for more information.
