NYSSA Selects Distinguished Service Recipient, Elects Officers

Joseph F. Artusio, Jr., M.D., New York, New York, was chosen as the recipient of the 1998 New York State Society of Anesthesiologists (NYSSA) Distinguished Service Award. The award will be presented at the opening general session of the 52nd Annual Postgraduate Assembly on Saturday, December 12, 1998, at the New York Hilton and Towers in New York City.

At the 51st Postgraduate Assembly last December, NYSSA elected its 1998 Officers. They are:

JAMA
Accepts Paper by Member of Pennsylvania Society

ASA member Allan Gottschalk, M.D., University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, had his paper accepted by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) on "Preemptive Epidural Analgesia and Recovery From Radical Prostatectomy." It appeared in JAMA on April 8, 1998.

JAMA editors contacted Dr. Gottschalk after seeing his research discussed in the USA Today newspaper following media coverage of his abstract at the 1996 ASA Annual Meeting.
