| Major Changes
for 1999 ASA Scientific Papers: Submission on Diskette Required |
The submission procedure for the 1999 ASA Scientific Papers will
be very different from previous years. As the first step in creating
an entirely electronic submission, evaluation and publication
process, submission of papers on diskette will be required
for 1999.
As part of the submission packet for 1999, authors will receive
a floppy disk containing a submission program that will work on
computers running Windows 95/98/NT or Macintosh operating systems.
Authors will type the traditional cover sheet material directly
into the program, and then type or paste the text of their abstract
directly into the program. Because this program will also be used
to generate the September supplement of Anesthesiology,
the amount of text allowed will be limited to the journal's format.
Authors will return a diskette, a printed copy of the abstract
and a signed acknowledgment form to the ASA Executive Office.
The major changes for 1999 are highlighted below. Please be
sure to read the instructions provided with your submission packet
carefully since the process will be considerably different from
past years. Submissions received without the required diskette
will be rejected for technical reasons.
- Submission of the abstract, using the computer program provided
by ASA, is required.
- Grading of abstracts will be based on the text only, minus
any tables, figures or graphs.
- Only the text of the abstract, minus any tables, figures
or graphs, will be published in the September supplement of
Anesthesiology.
- A maximum of one graphic and one table will be permitted.
The graphic and/or table will be published only in the World
Wide Web edition of Anesthesiology.
ASA realizes that diskettes may become unreadable due to the
rigors of transport. In such a case, ASA will make every effort
to contact the presenting author and request a replacement diskette.
However, the April 1 submission deadline will remain firm, and
any papers lacking an electronic submission will be rejected.
Therefore, we strongly recommend that authors submit their papers
early enough to ensure that the submission is complete and meets
all requirements.
