Nominations Sought for Award for Excellence in Research

The annual ASA Award for Excellence in Research recognizes an individual for outstanding achievement in research that has or is likely to have an important impact on the practice of anesthesiology.

The individual's work must represent a body of original, mature and sustained contributions to the advancement of the science of anesthesiology. The nominee need not be a physician, an anesthesiologist or a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists but must be presently engaged in research related to anesthesiology.

In 1998, the award was presented to Gary Strichartz, Ph.D., Professor of Anesthesia (Pharmacology) at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Strichartz was presented the award at the ASA Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, on Monday, October 19, 1998, immediately preceding the Emery A. Rovenstine Memorial Lecture.

The deadline for nominations for the 1999 Award for Excellence in Research is March 26, 1999. Guidelines for nominations are available from the ASA Executive Office, 520 N. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, IL 60068-2573.
