Nominations Sought for Award for Excellence in Research

The annual ASA Award for Excellence in Research recognizes an individual for outstanding achievement in research that has or is likely to have an important impact on the practice of anesthesiology.

The individual’s work must represent a body of original, mature and sustained contribution to the advancement of the science of anesthesiology. The nominee need not be a physician, an anesthesiologist or a member of ASA but must be presently engaged in research related to anesthesiology.

In 2002, the award was presented to Daniel I. Sessler, M.D., at the ASA Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, on Monday, October 14, 2002, immediately preceding the Emery A. Rovenstine Memorial Lecture.

Dr. Sessler is Assistant Vice-President for Health Affairs, Associate Dean for Research, Distinguished University Research Chair and the Lolita and Samuel Weakley Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky.

The deadline for nominations for the 2003 Award for Excellence in Research is March 30, 2003. Guidelines for nominations are available from the ASA Executive Office, 520 N. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, IL 60068-2573.
