Peter L. Hendricks, M.D., Installed as ASA Secretary

In the December 2002 NEWSLETTER article “2002 Annual Meeting: Swamped in Orlando,” which summarized the events of last year’s Annual Meeting, the installment of Peter L. Hendricks, M.D., as Secretary was inadvertently omitted. Dr. Hendricks has served as Assistant Secretary (1999-02); Director (1996-99); Chair, Committee on Anesthesia Care Team (1996-97); Member, committees on Ethics, Governmental Affairs, Standards of Care, Professional Liability, and Economics; and Member, House of Delegates Reference Committee and Board of Directors Review Committee. He is Vice-Chair, Department of Anesthesiology, Medical Center East, Birmingham, Alabama.

In other Annual Meeting news, the Scientific and 2002 Educational Exhibit Award winners are as follows:

The first-place award went to David T. Raphael, M.D., Ph.D., Maxim Benbassat, M.D., and Dimiter Arnaudov, M.D., from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, Los Angeles, California, for “Acoustic Reflectometry Imaging of the Airway.”

The second-place merit award went to Navparkash S. Sandhu, M.D., and Levon M. Capan, M.D., New York University School of Medicine, New York, New York, for “Use of Ultrasound for Peripheral Nerve Blocks.”
