Nominations Sought for Award for Excellence in Research

The annual ASA Award for Excellence in Research recognizes an individual for outstanding achievement in research that has or is likely to have an important impact on the practice of anesthesiology.

The individual’s work must represent a body of original, mature and sustained contribution to the advancement of the science of anesthesiology. The nominee need not be a physician, an anesthesiologist or a member of ASA but must be presently engaged in research related to anesthesiology.

In 2003, the award was presented to Mervyn Maze, M.B., Ch.B., at the ASA Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California, on Monday, October 13, 2003, immediately preceding the Emery A. Rovenstine Memorial Lecture.

Dr. Maze is Chair of the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the Magill Department of Anaesthetics, Imperial College, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London, England.

The deadline for nominations for the 2004 Award for Excellence in Research is March 30, 2004. Guidelines for nominations are available from the ASA Executive Office, 520 N. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, IL 60068-2573 or e-mail <J.Jacobson@ASAhq.org>.
