ASA Solicits ABA Directorate
Nominations
The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) has announced
that the Directorates now held by David H. Chestnut,
M.D., Douglas B. Coursin, M.D., Raymond C. Roy, M.D.,
Ph.D., and Kenneth J. Tuman, M.D., end with the Annual
Meeting of the Board in fall 2005. Drs. Chestnut, Coursin
and Tuman are eligible for re-election; Dr. Roy is not
eligible to serve another term.
In accordance with the policy established by the ASA
representatives to the Joint Committee at the ASA Annual
Meeting on October 20, 1961, the component society secretaries
and district directors of ASA have been notified regarding
the procedure to be followed in submitting the name(s)
of a candidate or candidates for the guidance of the
ASA representatives to the Joint Committee.
These names must be mailed to the ASA Executive Office,
520 N. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, IL 60068-2573,
with a postal mailing date prior to March 1,
2005.
Subspecialty
Certification Examinations in Critical Care Medicine
and Pain Medicine
The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) will administer
examinations for initial certification in critical care
medicine and pain medicine via computer at more than
350 test centers on Saturday, September 10, 2005. ABA
will inform candidates of the test sites when the list
is available.
All applicants for subspecialty certification must satisfactorily
complete one year of training in a critical care medicine
or a pain medicine program accredited by the Residency
Review Committee for Anesthesiology by August 31, 2005.
They also must be certified in anesthesiology by ABA
or be scheduled for ABA oral examination in 2005.
After December 14, 2004, applicants may use the ABA
Web site <www.theABA.org>
to submit their application for a subspecialty certification
examination electronically, download the application
from the ABA Web site or request the form by fax (919-881-2575)
or by writing ABA at 4101 Lake Boone Trail, Suite 510,
Raleigh, NC 27607-7506.
The standard application deadline is February
15, 2005. ABA will consider late applications
received by March 15, 2005. Applications received after
the late deadline will not be considered.
