he 2005 Conference on Practice Management held on February 4-6, in San Francisco, California, offered its greatest number of selections ever, and attendees rated them highly. This conference is now the second largest yearly ASA meeting, and it is profitable.

Michael Scott, J.D., recently retired Director of Governmental and Legal Affairs and one of the conference founders, gave his final Practice Management presentation, proudly reviewing its history and growth.

Included among the main program presenters were nine anesthesiologists, eight administrators, four lawyers, a business professor, a medical association leader and an insurance executive.

Speakers, practice management committee members and expert anesthesiologists led 20 discussion tables [Table 1]. These again proved popular, as attendees moved among discussion groups to round out their conference experiences. The discussion topics mirrored the breadth of the conference. Practice management committee members (see photo below) volunteer their time, learning more than enough to make the effort worthwhile.

There were 20 discussion table sessions during this year’s Conference on Practice Management in San Francisco. Each year the conference grows in both attendance and in educational sessions offered. The Committee on Practice Management expects another banner year at the 2006 conference in Orlando, Florida.
